Rietondale High School hosts a variety of cultural activities – from drama to choir to public speaking to…  Come speak your mind and sing along!

The choir started at the end of 2012 under the baton of Attie Rossouw.

The choir sings music of different genres and performs at choir festivals, church services, competitions and school functions.

Since 2013 the choir took part in different Eisteddfods and choir competitions as well as the ATKV Applous national competition where the choir was invited to the finals in 2014, 2015 and 2017. The choir was awarded a Gold certificate at each one of these events.

In 2017 we received the honor of being the best overall mixed Afrikaans choir in the country and crowned as national champions!

The choir has been on tour to Port Elizabeth during 2015 as well as to the Drakensberg in 2017. The choir participated in the World Choir games hosted in Tshwane during the July 2018 school holidays.

We sing because we love harmonious music.

Choir practise is scheduled for Mondays 14:15 until 16:00 every week.

The annual choir camp takes place the last weekend in January or the first weekend in February.

Choir auditions takes place in August for grade 9 to 11 learners and in January of the new school year for the grade 8 learners.

Woerie Idols

The Woerie Idols is an annual event during which students at the school compete for a grand prize in three different categories: Solo, Duets and Group Items. The participants go through several rounds of auditions before finalists are chosen for the final gala round. Professional adjudicators are responsible for selecting the winners in each category at the event which is held annually in the Pierneef Theatre on the school grounds.

Afrikaanse redenaars word aangebied en leerders word ingeskryf by die Radikale en ATKV-redenaars.

Learners take part in Afrikaans Public speaking, and are entered in the Radikale en ATKV Public speaking competitions.

Our school offers chess as an extra circular activity. Learners from grade 8 to grade 12 may participate in their different age groups.

Each year in January we have a round robin and then the different teams are selected.

We also have friendly matches starting in February to May. Chess practice is twice a week from 14:00 to 15:45. An outside coach helps the players with specific chess strategies and special moves in the game.

(Tactical) Team Chess is both a game and a sport played by 4 – 6 in each team on a single 8 classical chess board. The past three years we took part in the Arnold Classic Tournament at the Convention Centre in Sandton. The players receive certificates and the first three teams receive medals. In 2017 we won bronze medals. It is a fun day and the players are looking forward to the next match in May this year.

We are fortunate to have our own big chess board and big chess pieces.

League matches are taking place during August and a round robin is played by all the schools in our district.

Ignite is a group of learners that meet once a week at break, to learn more about God and living out the Christian faith. Learners are encouraged to suggest topics of interest, ask questions and learn about, and grow in, their faith. Most meetings include a combination of teaching by a local pastor, prayer and praise and worship. We have also organised some events such as exam prayer time with a marshmallow braai.
